Health and Safety Manager - Full Time Year Round


 

Location: Woodward West (Tehachapi, CA)

As the Woodward West Health and Safety Manager with a focus on risk and safety, you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programs and procedures. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and mitigate potential risks, injuries, and incidents, ensuring a safe and secure work environment for all team members and Woodward guests. This role also directly provides and assists with patient care in a high volume indoor & outdoor action sport facility.

Located at Woodward West this is a year-round opportunity with proposed compensation of 50K+, performance-based incentive program, and a robust benefit package including health, dental, vision, 401K match plan and more.

 

This unique role combines:

  • First response and sports injury patient care

  • Risk analysis and mitigation

  • Team development and leadership

Must have, or be able to obtain, one or more of the following certifications: Certified Athletic Trainer (preferred), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), or Registered Nurse.

Job Requirements

  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct thorough risk assessments across all aspects of the Woodward operations, identifying potential hazards, and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and guidelines. Stay updated on changes in workplace laws, legislation, and industry best practices.

  • Safety Audits: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, reporting findings and recommendations to Woodward senior leadership and Woodward General Managers.

  • Emergency Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, injury response plans, and medical directives.

  • Safety Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate records of safety data, incidents, injuries, and compliance reports.
    Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace and guest accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.

  • Safety Culture: Foster a culture of safety awareness and responsibility among all team members, encouraging active participation in safety initiatives.

  • Safety Training: Develop and deliver training programs to educate Woodward team members on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of safety equipment.

Basic Requirements:

  • Must have current CPR certification.

  • Must have excellent guest service skills.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must successfully complete a background check prior to employment.

  • Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

  • Must have sight, speech, and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions.

  • Must be able to safely assess and negotiate all season terrain and action sports environments.

  • Must have the ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.

 

Director of Sports Programming - Full Time Year Round


 

The Woodward West Director of Sports Programming is the driving force of the on-site experience and champion of progression and programming. This role is responsible for leading the West business with a major focus on developing sport and cultural programming, elevating the customer experience, providing inspiring and responsible leadership, and driving financial performance. The successful candidate will have the ability to lead the team in support of the company's core values and strategic plan. The Director of Sports Programming reports to the General Manager of Woodward West.

Located at Woodward West this is a year-round opportunity with a proposed compensation of 70K+, performance-based incentive program, and a robust benefit package including health, dental, vision, 401K match plan and more.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • 10+ years of experience in camp management, sport management and/or a related field

  • Proven ability to collaborate well across functions and departments, to work as part of a team, and to lead teams in achieving goals.

  • Proficiency in leadership, sports operations, and in-depth knowledge in progression learning and programming.

  • Four-year college or related degree is desired, relevant focus in Sport or Business Management, Parks and Recreation Admin, Education, Youth Development

  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.

  • Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources, analyze, and interpret financial data, and develop and deliver presentations.

  • Capable of managing up to 100 staff members

  • Capable of managing sport programming, accounting, finance, and HR

  • Capable of managing partner and sponsor relationships

  • Health and Safety Certifications.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and quick to learn other software and technology systems.

  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders, guests, sponsors, professional athletes, associations, vendors, community leadership, etc.

  • Collaboratively communicates, researches solutions, and identifies resolutions.

  • Maintains proficient understanding of legal and risk management.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES:

Strategic Planning:

  • Support the development of the Woodward strategic plan to advance the company's mission and vision, while promoting growth, high quality experiences, profitability, and sustainability.

  • Lead programming innovation and change, implementing these changes to exceed our guests' expectations and financial goals.

  • Plan and develop programming facilities to ensure sport leadership. Oversee aspects of annual Capital Expenditure projects related to sport programming.

Sport Leadership and Programming:

  • Oversees the continual evaluation, development, safety, and enhancement of all sport facilities and disciplines.

  • Has deep knowledge of the sport experiences offered to guests, identifying areas of improvement, assessing staffing, identifying opportunities, and adjusting to the position as a sport leader.

  • Creates products and programming that are relevant for beginners, enthusiasts, and high performing athletes. Encouraging progression at every level and pace.

  • Understands and creates industry trends, while maintaining the integrity of our progression-based focus.

Leadership and Staff Management:

  • Promotes a culture that reflects the organizations' values, encourages, and rewards good performance and rewards productivity.

  • Champions and ensures employee engagement and ownership.

  • Trains and develops future coaches and leadership within the organization, maintains leadership succession planning.

  • Creates and maintains infrastructure to ensure the success of the programming department.

  • Reviews and responds to Guest Research Surveys and guest feedback; develops action plans to improve net promoter scores.

Financial Results:

  • Plans, develops, and initiates year-round strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the camp and POWDR Corp.

  • Reviews reports and financial statements to determine progress and status towards objectives and drives change when necessary.

  • Meets or exceeds all financial goals, budgets, and projects that have been established.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, and bench, squat, and deadlift 50 lbs.

  • Must be comfortable working in an all-season environment.

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.

  • Willing to travel as needed.

  • Able to be indemnified and bonded, as necessary.

  • As a requirement of this position, pre-hire criminal history clearances collected through FBI fingerprint screening and a third-party background check vendor.
