The Wildland Trekking Company offers small group multi-day backpacking or llama/mule supported trips, day hikes, car-camping basecamp style, and inn-based hiking trips for adults and families looking to experience unforgettable hiking vacations in majestic landscapes. Guests can expect delicious meals and extraordinary guides who have the ability to turn a great get-away into an unforgettable, inspiring adventure.
Wildland has trips for every ability level both on and off 'the beaten path'. Guides manage all aspects of the trip, are responsible for interpretive information, risk management, teaching all aspects of hiking and camping, guest satisfaction, and prepare 3 meals a day for guests in the field. Efficient and effective organizational skills, strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication and a high level of fitness are needed. Guides walk all day carrying a heavy backpack in varied backcountry environments and weather while providing excellent customer service and managing social dynamics in mixed groups. We offer guides roughly 13-20 days of work a month during the season.
Wildland is looking for guides in 2024 who are willing to work seasonally March through October in a desert branch or mountain branchs June through September. We have a variety of multi-day trip positions, day hike only and combinations available.

Job Requirements:
21 years old or older in order to guide and drive
Able to pass a background, motor vehicle record check, and a drug test (CA only)
Able to obtain a Backcountry Food Manager’s Certification
Able to obtain a Leave No Trace certification (location dependent)
Able to obtain WFR (Wilderness First Responder) or WEMT (Wilderness EMT)
Able to hike up to 15 miles per day with a pack weight up to 55-65 pounds
20-35 pounds for day hike only positions
Able to attend pre-season guide training
Willingness for multi-day guides to lead all trip styles (Backpacking, Llama/stock supported, Basecamp, Inn-based) offered in the program area one is applying.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 50 field days in a professional outdoor guide/leader position (touring, hiking, backpacking or other activities) and/or professional experience in outdoor education (i.e. NOLS, Outward Bound, Wilderness Therapy, etc.).
Extensive personal backpacking experience in a variety of conditions.
Strong back-country skills (i.e. maps, compass/GPS, route finding, river crossings, water purification, bear country, camps stove use, back-country cooking, etc.).
Interpretation knowledge of the area one is applying or commitment to learning through self-study.
Ability to work independently and use good judgment for decision making in a variety of situations.
Speak and write English fluently, excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in a professional outdoor guide/leader position (touring, hiking, backpacking or other activities) and/or professional experience in outdoor education (i.e. NOLS, Outward Bound, Wilderness Therapy, etc.).
Background in geology, ecology, biology, native and modern history or expertise in at least one of our program locations.
Excellent outdoor cooking skills and ability to create a fantastic menu factoring food allergies, restrictions and preferences.
Two years of commercial driving experience (any job where you had to at least occasionally transport passengers).
Fluent in French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese a plus.
California Deputy Operations Manager
As a Deputy Operations Manager, you’ll get the opportunity to play an active role in delivering unique experiences to our customers, to ensure they have the best travel experience ever!
The Deputy Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in the successful and profitable running of Intrepid & Wildland Trekking Co. trips to the standards stipulated by Intrepid and Wildland Trekking’s policies and practices. You will be the main point of contact for field staff working in the branch as well as the Operations teams. You’ll be responsible for the overall performance of California trips, including maintaining and operating a branch warehouse location, and performing business administrative duties related to the branch. In addition, you will work closely with the contracting, reservations, sales and other functions for the branch.
This job is based in our office in Mariposa, CA and is full-time, seasonal from March–October. Part-time, casual work outside of season may be needed. A willingness to maintain a flexible schedule and work weekends and/or holidays is necessary.

Extensive knowledge of the field area (Yosemite, Inyo NF, Stanislaus NF, Sierra NF, Sequoia-Kings NP, Lassen NP and King Range)
Travel industry work experience, preferably as a tour leader or guide
Excellent communication (verbal & written) in English
Proficiency with Google Drive apps, Microsoft Office/Excel and previous experience with a CRM system (Salesforce is an advantage!)
Strong supervisory, facilitation and organization skills
What you need to know:
The salary for this position is 55-67k annually, - as this is an annualized salary, you would be paid at that rate of the actual weeks of work (March through October)
During March-October housing is included for the Program Manager on-site.
You will need to meet company and DOT driving requirements and maintain a valid Driver’s License
Must be at least 21 years of age
Maintain a current Wilderness First Responder, CPR & Epi Certification
You must pass a background check

Senior Operations Coordinator, California
In support of the company mission, your goal will be to provide managerial, and operations support under the direction of the Deputy Operations Manager. On a day-to-day basis, you will handle the behind-the-scenes details in our operations department to allow our Product and Operations Managers to maintain a big picture focus. You will be trained and have managerial authority to be able to provide operational support to help Intrepid and Wildland Trekking in the absence of the Deputy Operations Manager.
This is a seasonal position that operates in Mariposa, CA. The salary for this position is $20-24/hr USD depending on experience. Flexibility is crucial in this position as you will participate in “on-call” responsibilities of the department’s emergency phone when scheduled.

Physical capability to meet company and DOT driving requirements, including ability to tow and reverse a trailer and stock trailer for transporting llamas
Willingness to work with llamas and provide care for them at facility (previous llama handling experience preferred but not essential!)
