Vehicle Mechanic


 

Reports To: Vehicle Maintenance Manager

Department: Vehicle Maintenance

Status: Full Time Year Round

Date: 12/28/2023

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Troubleshoot and repair snow grooming equipment, snowmobiles, UTVs, ATVs, loader, skid steer, backhoe, busses, trucks, generators, and small engine equipment.  Perform daily/weekly/monthly checks, assist with maintaining documentation and checking on completion of daily logs for passenger vans and bus.  Train operators on all types of equipment and assist manager with ordering parts.  Maintain and organize shop and shop yard.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment as assigned by supervisor. 

  • Troubleshoot issues on equipment, researching fixes. 

  • Communicate parts and supply needs to supervisor. 

  • Train operators on all equipment with documentation.

  • Check on daily vehicle checks log for passenger vans. 

  • Assist other mountain operations departments as needed (lift maintenance, snowmaking, lift operations, grooming)

  • Act as a positive, professional role model, adhering to the company’s hospitality standards. 

  • Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees, and management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • Two Years of snowcat/heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred. 

  • Valid drivers license with ability to pass MVR check, current CDL license preferred. 

  • Ownership of hand tools to perform maintenance on a variety of equipment preferred.   

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Must be able to lift up to 60lbs. 

  • Dexterity and gripping ability for utilizing hand tools. 

  • Walking, Standing, Squatting, Kneeling, Reaching, Pulling, Crawling, Climbing Ladders.  

  • Verbal and auditory abilities necessary for communication with others. 

  • Ability to work in high alpine environment including extreme winter weather conditions.

Shuttle Driver


 

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for transporting employees to and from work using company passenger vans. Drivers perform daily operational checks, operate vehicles within posted speed limits and practice defensive driving appropriate for conditions. Drivers run routes to scheduled times and make stops at local grocery store, gear stores and other appropriate stops as needed by employees.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Operate passenger vans following all motor vehicle laws of the State of Colorado. 

  • Complete pre-operational vehicle check before each shift. 

  • Stay on schedule throughout shift. 

  • Assist with Facilities and/or Mountain Operations duties as assigned between routes. 

  • Drive daily routes to employee housing locations, grocery store, etc. 

  • Drive trips to Denver, Summit County and other locations for J1 cultural activities, shopping and airport.  

  • Create friendly, helpful, approachable experience for employees. 

 

 

Snowmaker


 

Are you someone who counts down to the first snowfall and prefers the outdoors to sitting at a desk? Does your day start when the sun goes down? If either of these sound like you, we want you to join our Snowmaking team! 

Snowmakers are a vital part of any ski resort, responsible for staging snow guns and hoses, checking and adjusting all running equipment, and making magic happen on the mountain. Snowmaking requires strenuous physical work outdoors during overnight shifts in cold and sometime extreme weather conditions while working with fan guns.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Check and adjust fan guns to maintain snow quality regularly.

  • Operate snowmobiles and UTV/ATV that may be towing snowmaking equipment or pulling hoses.

  • Hook up and clean out snowmaking hoses and equipment regularly.

  • Ensure safety requirements are met and adhered to at all times.

  • Stage hose and guns utilizing snowmobile, UTV as necessary. Hiking through tree islands in wet, heavy, deep snow will be required.

  • Move and fluff hose as directed by supervisor and to ensure it is not buried or frozen during shift.

  • Move, redirect, and maintain snow guns as directed by supervisor and to ensure it is not frozen, buried or pointed in the wrong direction due to wind. Requires removing ice and snow using hand tools.

  • Conduct system start up and shut down following protocols and supervisor direction exactly every time.

  • Communicate at the end of each shift to inform supervisor/director of progress during shift.

  • Communicate any mechanical, hydraulic, or other issues to Supervisor immediately.

  • Communicate any damage sustained to snowmobile, UTV/ATV, or other equipment during shift immediately to Director.

  • Keep the Supervisor informed of all situations and status throughout the shift.

  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be physically capable to perform strenuous exercise at 8,000-10,000 feet with adverse weather conditions including working with high pressure water and air.

  • Must be able to work over-night shift.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Dexterity and strength for utilizing hand tools including mallets, large wrenches, operating snowmobiles, connecting hoses to fittings in cold, wet conditions.

  • Excellent verbal, auditory and visual abilities necessary for communication with others in the dark, while using helmets, radios, and working around loud equipment.

  • Provide own clothing and accessories necessary for work outdoors in high alpine winter environment.

  • Walking, Kneeling, Squatting, Climbing (ladders), Reaching, Grabbing, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Sitting, Standing, on uneven, sometimes icy, steep slopes, in variable snow conditions.

 

Ski & Snowboard Instructors


 

Granby Ranch is looking for ski and snowboard instructors of all levels for the Winter 2023-2024 season! Our instructors provide our guests with exceptional learning experiences in the skills of skiing and/or snowboarding. While this position includes both indoor and outdoor operations, instructors will primarily be outdoors and are required to create a lesson plan. You will be working directly with guests of all ages (3 and older). This position requires appropriate communication and a welcoming demeanor with customers.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach quality skiing/snowboarding lessons as assigned, following standard PSIA-AASI progressions.

  • Attend training clinics as scheduled.

  • Report to class line-ups as scheduled and on time.

  • Adhere to uniform and appearance policies.

  • Always adhere to all safety requirements and standards (see Know The Code), including but not limited to loading and unloading lifts safely.

  • Follow appropriate children's center procedures when assigned there.

  • Act as a positive role model for training and performance in guest relations

  • Maintain an organized, clean, efficient workspace 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a positive, professional role model, adhering to the company’s hospitality standards.

  • Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees, and management.

  • Assist in fitting rental gear for guests, following industry technical standards.

  • Ability to work with children, instructors, and other employees in a team environment.

  • Assist and support other departments for races, events and operations on high volume days.

  • Ability to multitask and shift from inside to outdoor job duties in a timely manner.

  • Adhere to all children’s safety standards and policies.

  • Available to work weekends/holidays and peak periods, if needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Previous ski and/or snowboard experience.

  • Work towards PSIA-AASI Certification(s) and continued education

  • Know how to load and unload a ski lift safely.

  • Assisting other departments as needed. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • Non Certified instructor (No certification required: $19-20/hr)

  • PSIA/AASI 1 (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1; provide certificate/card: $21-23/hr)

  • PSIA/AASI 2 (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 with secondary experience i.e. CS or FS; provide certificate/card: $24-26/hr)

  • PSIA/AASI 3 (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1, Level 2,  and Level 3 with secondary experience i.e. CS or FS; provide certificate/card: $26-29/hr) 

  • PSIA/AASI Trainer (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 with secondary experience i.e. CS or FS; provide certificate/card: $27-32/hr)

  • Coaching or teaching experience preferred

  • Skiing or snowboarding experience required

  • Experience working with children preferred

Housing

  • Granby Ranch offers employee housing including private room options. Rent ranges from $650-$1200/month and is taken directly out of biweekly paychecks. A security deposit of $325 (refundable) and an admin fee of $75 (non-refundable) are due upon check-in. We recommend paying at least one week's rent upon check-in but do not require it. Having a car is recommended but not required; employee transportation is provided during the winter season between housing unit, work and the grocery store. Housing inspections are conducted biweekly.
