Kitchen


 

Kitchen: Kitchen Manager and Head Chef and Cook positions available

 The food at Camp Arcadia is perhaps the most important single item in the life of a camper or counselor.  To enter a clean and cheerful dining hall, to have food served promptly and quietly, and to be able to eat a meal in an unhurried and comfortable atmosphere will set the tone of our whole camp program.  The entire team is responsible for preparing nutritious, wholesome, creative and well-balanced meals and snacks for an active and energetic camp family. 

All Cooks make a competitive salary, and room & board are provided (private housing available), Servsafe Food Handler’s Certification required, Driver’s license preferred!

 

Interested in the Kitchen Manager position? Ideal candidates will be ready and have experience in all of the following:

  • Overseeing the specifics of each meal and manage the execution and design of a daily menu for all types of eaters including vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free

  • Executing the ordering and meal planning multiple times a week, with an eye towards managing the Kitchen within budget and with limited waste 

  • Leading daily and weekly meetings with your team, giving clear direction and feedback to ensure the standard of meal, equipment, and Kitchen care is set and maintained.

  • Leading with flexibility.  In a camp environment you can anticipate unexpected situations such as guests, Wellness Center requests, special needs and eaters, and more. 

  • Working alongside and delegating to team members to ensure all food is received, inventoried, organized, and prepared in service to the longevity of the product and the execution of the menu.

 

Nurse


 

Camp Arcadia is searching for skilled Nurses to join our Healthcare Center this summer from June 2024-early August 2024.  Each summer, Camp Arcadia puts together a team of health care professionals to provide care and support to our camp community. All R.N’s must have the ability to be licensed in the state of Maine.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized health care and support to all campers

  • Prepare the Healthcare Center for camp, including reviewing medical forms, preparing first aid kits, and setting up key systems for the summer 

  • Participate in the training of staff on all medical services at camp, including but not limited to standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health or social needs, health care or emergency procedures, protocols for contacting parents

  • Provide daily screening, medication distribution, injury support, trip health kits, and recordkeeping to support the ongoing running of the Healthcare Center

  • Provide guidance to camp staff as they navigate any personal health or medical needs

  • Communicate professionally and empathetically across a variety of camp stakeholders, including daily communications with Directors and frequent interactions with counselor staff, camp administration, and parents

  • Schedule doctor’s appointments and/or transport campers or staff as needed to external health care centers in service to ensuring proper treatment for all is secured

  • Participate as needed in inspections or ongoing documentation related to the health care center and safety in service to ACA and state compliance

  • Cover on-call Healthcare Center shifts overnight as needed 

  • Contribute actively and enthusiastically to our larger camp community, attending community meals, meetings, and assemblies and spending time with campers and staff


 

Head of Waterfront


 

The Head of Waterfront is a key leader within our activity program whose overall responsibility will be the safety of the Arcadia waterfront on Pleasant Lake.  The Head of the Waterfront will also be a waterfront activity counselor or department head, allowing them to lead from the perspective of both waterfront safety and activity teaching. This role must be a certified Lifeguard and have a Lifeguard Instructor certification. 

Responsibilities for the Head of Waterfront position include:

  • Daily check of the waterfront of Arcadia from across the length of the property

  • Ensure that all observations are completed from the main H dock daily (usually completed by the Head of Swimming, but could be completed by other designees).

  • Check the motorboats each morning, ensuring boats are started and run in a loop around the waterfront. The Head of Waterfront or designee should view the entirety of Arcadia’s waterfront at this time and report any motorboat issues to the Head of Safety and the Head of Sailing if identified. 

  • Confirm that the waterfront and waterfront activity safety rules are posted visibly and reviewed by all personnel and campers. 

  • Plan and facilitate weekly in-service training for lifeguards through the summer

  • Verify lifeguard skills of all staff lifeguards; Review and practice all Waterfront EAPs with lifeguards and waterfront staff regularly.

  • Train and monitor waterfront staff on General Swim procedures; Orient the entire staff to the Arcadia waterfront safety rules and expectations, including for non-swimmers.

  • Monitor list of non-swimmers at Arcadia and ensure clear communication between Camp Administration and the Swimming department on all non-swimmers at Arcadia.

  • Monitor all Waterfront equipment for safety. Communicate all urgent repairs directly, and report needed repairs or equipment following proper protocols.

  • Be present on the waterfront and assist as needed in the various waterfront activities during activity periods and General Swim times

  • Ensure the safety of all waterfront activities throughout the summer 


 

Waterfront Staff: Canoeing, Diving, Kayaking, Sailing, Swimming, or Synchronized Swimming


 

The Arcadia waterfront is bustling with Boating, Canoeing, Diving, Sailing, Swimming, and Synchronized Swimming.  We are seeking counselors who are passionate about sharing one or more of these activities with our campers ages 7-17.  You will work as a team to teach the activity you know best, as well as play a key part in keeping the waterfront safe and vibrant! All waterfront staff should have an active Lifeguard certification, and we provide additional reimbursements for this certification, and support in identifying a course if needed.  Leadership roles (department head positions) available for those with experience and interest in leading a team!

 

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaches beginners through advanced lessons for campers aged 7-17, four activity periods a day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon). Occasionally, there may be opportunities to teach younger children or other adults

  • Teaches according to Camp Arcadia’s activity levels with a willingness to learn how these skills are taught and utilized within our community and program

  • Collaborates directly with assigned department head and team members

  • Participate in the planning and execution of events, outings, or special announcements related to your activity

If you are  a lodge counselor, responsibilities include:

  • Attend & participate in pre-camp communications & training programs 

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day

  • Live and eat with campers (ages 7-17).  Counselors have 1-2 co-counselors in their assigned cabin, and collectively they are responsible for the daily care of their campers

Camping and Wilderness Skills


 

Arcadia’s Campcraft department unlocks confidence in our campers by teaching them core camping and wilderness skills.   If you have knowledge of camping skills and outdoor living skills, and/or scouting experience or relevant training from other camp or wilderness experiences we would love to hear from you! All Campcraft staff should have an active CPR/First Aid certification (Wilderness First Aid a plus!), and we provide additional reimbursements for this certification and support in identifying a course if needed.

 

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaches beginners through advanced Campcraft lessons for campers aged 7-17, four activity periods a day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon). Occasionally, there may be opportunities to teach younger children or other adults

  • Teaches according to Camp Arcadia’s activity levels with a willingness to learn how these skills are taught and utilized within our community and program

  • Collaborates directly with assigned department head and team members

  • Participate in the planning and execution of events, outings, or special announcements related to your activity

  • Assist with cookouts, overnight trips, and training to build fires

  • Assist and/or Lead aspects of the Junior Maine Guide program

If you are  a lodge counselor, responsibilities include:

  • Live and eat with campers (ages 7-17).  Counselors have 1-2 co-counselors in their assigned cabin, and collectively they are responsible for the daily care of their campers

Hiking Trip Leader


 

Arcadia’s Trips department provide our campers with unforgettable hiking and canoeing experiences in the Maine and New Hampshire area.  If you have experience on day, overnight, and multi-day hikes, love camping and outdoor cooking, and are excited to encourage young people ages 7-17 to love nature adventures, we’d love to meet you! All Trips staff should be21+,  available for our pe-camp Trip Clinic and have an active Wilderness First Aid certification, we provide additional reimbursements for this certification and support in identifying a course if needed.

 

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Hike 4-5 days per week in the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire 

  • Responsible for organizing, promoting, and packing trip, including supporting the logistics, food preparation, and overall safety while on trips 

  • Write trip reports in a timely manner 

  • Work directly with the Head of Trips to prepare and debrief Trip activities 

  • Maintain equipment and organization of the Trip Shed 

  • Ability to drive a 12-passenger van for short trips and longer (up to 6 hours)

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day

Fine Arts: Head of Weaving, Head of Arts and Crafts, and Drama Counselors


 

Camp Arcadia offers our campers opportunities to express themselves creatively through Weaving, Arts & Crafts, and Drama. If you are skilled at any of these artistries and love to teach them to children, we would love to meet you! All fine arts departments create art or productions that can be showcased for the entire camp.  If you are applying for our Arts & Crafts department, you should have experience in ceramics and pottery.  If you are applying for Drama, you should have experience directing or stage managing plays or musicals.

Camp Arcadia is seeking a Head of Archery!  Whether you are experienced at Archery or hoping to pick up a new skill, the right Head of Archery will bring a passion and excitement to sharing these skills with our campers.

 

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach beginners through advanced Archery lessons for campers aged 7-17, four activity periods a day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon). Occasionally, there may be opportunities to teach younger children or other adults

  • Teach according to Camp Arcadia’s activity levels with a willingness to learn how these skills are taught and utilized within our community and program

  • Collaborate directly with assigned department head and team members

  • Participate in the planning and execution of events, outings, or special announcements related to your activity

  • Submit weekly lesson plans and activity schedule, ensuring the successful delivery of 4 activity periods a day each week

  • Participate in department head meetings and planning, collaborating across all department heads to ensure camper goals are being tracked, met and communicated to your team

  • Provide feedback and guidance to other staff and campers in your activity

  • Keep records of weekly camper Level achievements, daily camper attendance, and other required paperwork and deadlines

  • Organize demonstrations, competitions or outings for the camp community

  • Complete a final written Activity report and any other paperwork as required

If you are  a lodge counselor, responsibilities include:

  • Attend & participate in pre-camp communications & training programs 

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day

  • Live and eat with campers (ages 7-17).  Counselors have 1-2 co-counselors in their assigned cabin, and collectively they are responsible for the daily care of their campers

Camp Arcadia is seeking a Tennis counselor to join our Tennis team!  All candidates should have a demonstrated knowledge of tennis rules, strokes, game play, and tournaments.  Experience coaching or teaching Tennis is preferred.

 

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach beginners through advanced Tennis lessons for campers aged 7-17, four activity periods a day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon). Occasionally, there may be opportunities to teach younger children or other adults

  • Teach according to Camp Arcadia’s activity levels with a willingness to learn how these skills are taught and utilized within our community and program

  • Collaborate directly with assigned department head and team members

  • Participate in the planning and execution of events, outings, or special announcements related to your activity, including camp and intercamp tournaments

Camp Arcadia is seeking a Head of Nature!  If you are a nature-lover with experience in nature crafts, environmental education, and helping others connect with the out of doors, we’d love to meet you!

 

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach beginners through advanced Nature lessons for campers aged 7-17, four activity periods a day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon). Occasionally, there may be opportunities to teach younger children or other adults

  • Teach according to Camp Arcadia’s activity levels with a willingness to learn how these skills are taught and utilized within our community and program

  • Coordinate and develop Maine lore presentations and activities for weekly Campfire

  • Support the execution of Camp Arcadia’s conservation, sustainability and composting efforts, including actively expanding and growing the garden

  • Participate in the planning and execution of events, outings, or special announcements related to your activity

  • Submit weekly lesson plans and activity schedule, ensuring the successful delivery of 4 activity periods a day each week

  • Participate in department head meetings and planning, collaborating across all department heads to ensure camper goals are being tracked, met and communicated to your team

  • Provide feedback and guidance to other staff and campers in your activity

  • Keep records of weekly camper Level achievements, daily camper attendance, and other required paperwork and deadlines

  • Organize demonstrations, competitions or outings for the camp community

Driver


 

The Camp Driver is an important member of the Camp Arcadia community.  This role can live on-site or be a commuter in Maine, and is accountable for driving Camp trips and outings, planning & organizing staff day-off and outings, completing errands and shopping on behalf of Camp, and supporting the upkeep of all Camp vehicles. Drivers must have a clean driving record, a valid driver’s license, and be comfortable driving a 12-passenger van in addition to a variety of vehicles.  Experience driving in the Maine or New Hampshire area is a plus!

Due to the unpredictable needs of the role, most likely, the Driver is a non-lodge counselor. These responsibilities include:

  • Attend & participate in pre-camp communications & training programs 

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day. Though non-lodges do not live with campers, they support the camp community as a whole and step up when lodge counselors are busy with lodge responsibilities

  • Interact with campers ages 7-17, including hosting outdoor meals and cookouts, facilitating evening programs, leading hikes and paddles to the neighboring town, and emceeing camp-wide assemblies and events

  • Act as key Camp and event support, ensuring all spaces, cabins, and fixtures are set up in service to all Residential and Activity needs
