Kitchen: Cook positions available


 

The food at Camp Arcadia is perhaps the most important single item in the life of a camper or counselor. To enter a clean and cheerful dining hall, to have food served promptly and quietly, and to be able to eat a meal in an unhurried and comfortable atmosphere will set the tone of our whole camp program. The entire team is responsible for preparing nutritious, wholesome, creative and well-balanced meals and snacks for an active and energetic camp family.

All Cooks make a competitive salary, and room & board are provided (private housing available), Servsafe Food Handler’s Certification required, Driver’s license preferred! Interested in the cook position?

Ideal candidates will be ready and have experience in all of the following:

  • Execution a daily family style menu for all types of eaters including vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free

  • Leading with flexibility. In a camp environment you can anticipate unexpected situations such as guests, Wellness Center requests, special needs and eaters, and more.

  • Ensure all food is received, inventoried, organized, and prepared in service to the longevity of the product and the execution of the menu.

 

Waterfront Staff: Canoeing, Kayaking, Sailing, Swimming


 

The Arcadia waterfront is bustling. We are seeking counselors who are passionate about sharing one or more of these activities with our campers ages 7-17. You will work as a team to teach the activity you know best, as well as play a key part in keeping the waterfront safe and vibrant! All waterfront staff should have an active Lifeguard certification, and we provide a course if you do not have this certification Leadership roles (department head positions) available for those with experience and interest in leading a team!

Department Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaches beginners through advanced lessons for campers aged 7-17, four activity periods a day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon). Occasionally, there may be opportunities to teach younger children or other adults

  • Teaches according to Camp Arcadia’s activity levels with a willingness to learn how these skills are taught and utilized within our community and program

  • Collaborates directly with assigned department head and team members

  • Participate in the planning and execution of events, outings, or special announcements related to your activity

If you are a lodge counselor, responsibilities include:

  • Attend & participate in pre-camp communications & training programs

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day

  • Live and eat with campers (ages 7-17). Counselors have 1-2 co-counselors in their assigned cabin, and collectively they are responsible for the daily care of their campers

  • Participate in meetings, activities, and events by unit (assigned age group)

  • Participate in and/or run Camp programs such as games, events, cabin preparation, report writing, and other tasks as assigned for the operation of Camp’s programs

If you are a non-lodge counselor, responsibilities include:

  • Attend & participate in pre-camp communications & training programs

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day. Though non-lodges do not live with campers, they support the camp community as a whole and step up when lodge counselors are busy with lodge responsibilities

  • Interact with campers ages 7-17, including hosting outdoor meals and cookouts, facilitating evening programs, leading hikes and paddles to the neighboring town, and emceeing camp-wide assemblies and events

  • Act as key Camp and event support, ensuring all spaces, cabins, and fixtures are set up in service to all Residential and Activity needs

  • Participate in weekly meetings and unit events as requested and other tasks as assigned for the operation of Camp’s programs

 

Camping and Wilderness Skills


 

Arcadia’s Campcraft department unlocks confidence in our campers by teaching them core camping and wilderness skills. If you have knowledge of camping skills and outdoor living skills, and/or scouting experience or relevant training from other camp or wilderness experiences we would love to hear from you! All Campcraft staff should have an active CPR/First Aid certification (Wilderness First Aid a plus!), and we provide additional reimbursements for this certification and support in identifying a course if needed.

  • Assist with cookouts, overnight trips, and training to build fires

  • Assist and/or Lead aspects of the Junior Maine Guide program

If you are a lodge counselor, responsibilities include:

  • Attend & participates in pre-camp communications & training programs

  • Provide excellent care and supervision for all campers, exhibiting patience and understanding throughout the day

  • Live and eat with campers (ages 7-17). Counselors have 1-2 co-counselors in their assigned cabin, and collectively they are responsible for the daily care of their campers

  • Participate in meetings, activities, and events by unit (assigned age group)

  • Participate in and/or run Camp programs such as games, events, cabin preparation, report writing, and other tasks as assigned for the operation of Camp’s programs

Fine Arts: Arts and Crafts, and Drama Counselors


 

Camp Arcadia offers our campers opportunities to express themselves creatively through Weaving, Arts & Crafts, and Drama. If you are skilled at any of these artistries and love to teach them to children, we would love to meet you! All fine arts departments create art or productions that can be showcased for the entire camp. If you are applying for our Arts & Crafts department, you should have experience in ceramics and pottery. If you are applying for Drama, you should have experience directing or stage managing plays or musicals

Arcadia has been helping women for over 100 years. Through our program, campers develop self-confidence, learn new life skills, cultivate meaningful relationships, and build an awareness of the out of doors. Camp Arcadia staff have a variety of different backgrounds and come from around the US and the world. All of our counselor staff teach within one or more of our activities, work long busy days, and the majority of our activity staff live with campers as lodge counselors in rustic lodges in close proximity to nature.
