Camp Intern


 

The Camp Intern supports the Farm Leadership Team with the day to day operations of the Farm.

Responsibilities and Duties*:

  • Establish team or cohort connections with assigned Campers 

  • Conduct meetings with students and chaperons daily 

  • Support Students in Experiential Learning Activities and create a safe environment for them

  • Facilitate Small Group Discussion and Debrief with students

  • Support Kitchen staff with cooking, meal preparation, cleaning, and other kitchen needs

  • Support Barn Staff with barn animal care

  • Support Garden Staff with garden care

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • 1 to 2 years experience working with At-Risk Youth

  • Prior Camp RA or Teaching experience is preferred

  • Employee must pass TB Test and Physical Examination

  • Valid driver’s license for at least the past 3 years preferred

Compensation and More:

  • $16/hr

Office Assistant


 

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:*

  •  Provides general office support by answering phones, taking and delivering messages, rerouting calls as needed, filing, data entry, managing incoming and interoffice mail, FedEx/UPS/USPS (pick-up/deliveries, etc.), and assists with credit card expense reports.

  • Answer inquiries about Blackbird Farm and Farm Stay Inn and provide customer service as needed.  

  • Helps maintain, organize and update staff on office activities 

  • Communicates and maintains company information by posting and maintaining policies in common areas, distributing updated contact information, and other information as needed.

  • Learns how to operate all office machines such as photocopier/scanner, voicemail/phone systems and personal computers.  If an IT or facility problem cannot be easily resolved through troubleshooting, the Office Assistant will coordinate with appropriate personnel (facilities, IT, etc) for  assistance until the problem(s) have been resolved.  

  • Interfaces with accounting, payroll, vendors, sister companies, and clients as needed.  

  • Supports with department-level budgets as directed.

  • Gathers and assembles receipts in order to prepare and complete monthly reports for credit card billing and payments.

  • Prepares and completes expense reports.

  • Orders supplies and/or does supply runs for all Blackbird Farm departments

  • Conducts research as needed for all Blackbird Farm departments.

  • Cleaning as needed in the office and cabins.

  • Assists kitchen staff as needed.

  • Assists Farm Stay Inn with guest reservations from booking through check out and with event tours and invoicing. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Ability to track down and effectively manage financial reports and documents with little supervision.

  • Good working knowledge of all MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Experience with general office duties.

  • Excellent phone communication and customer service skills.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma preferred

  • Some college/BA preferred.

  • Bookkeeping experience is preferred.

Compensation:

  • $16/hr.

Prep Cook- Pool


 

Prep Cook will support the Head Chef by assisting with food preparation, washing dishes, serving food, and cleanup of the dining room, kitchen area, and farmhouse. The Prep Cook will report to the Head Chef.

 

Essential Functions and Duties include, but are not limited to the following:*

  • Assist in preparation and serving of meals for students, staff, and guests.

  • Follow established recipes and meet quality standards both in volume and small quantities.

  • Perform repetitive work such as slicing, chopping, cutting, stirring, frying and other related kitchen duties.

  • Occasionally prepare and serve meals independently by following established recipes. 

  • Ensure food is maintained at proper serving temperatures.

  • Clean food preparation equipment used, and ensures food preparation and service areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. 

  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly deep cleaning of the facility and service areas and all kitchen equipment.

  • Practice safe food handling guidelines according to Health and Safety and regulations (CALCODE).

  • Receive, label, and stock food and supplies according to Environmental Health and Safety and regulations (CALCODE).

  • Maintain internal cleanliness of entire Farmhouse, including bathrooms, living room, dining room, etc.

  • Assist with other projects and duties as assigned 

  • Greet our guests with a smile and express a genuine appreciation for them

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Professional, mature and experienced working with a wide range of populations (experience with both youth and adult clients).

  • Ability to interpret and follow recipes and to compute basic mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to work under time constrains, and support with preparing meals for small (10) as well as large (100+) group

  • Able to work independent of others with minimal supervision as well as in a team.

Education, Experience and Requirements:

  • Culinary Arts Degree or a minimum of 1 year of equivalent experience in kitchen preparation and cooking.

  • Must be available to work weekends.

  • ServSafe Certified preferred.

  • Employee must pass TB test and Livescan background clearance.

Camp Blackbird is a fun, outdoor education non-profit program dedicated to helping students practice confidence, teamwork, and connectedness. This new camp encourages students to explore new experiences, work effectively with a team, and recognize the importance of being connected to others. Camp Blackbird provides ample support and safety including 24-hour staff supervision and positive role models to motivate and help our students daily.
