Overview:

Cody Outdoor Classroom is seeking enthusiastic, outdoorsy, and committed educators to join our team! Cody Outdoor Education delivers residential, 1-5-day environmental education programs to 4th - 8th grade students from New England schools.

We focus on social and emotional learning, science and engineering skills, and adventure education. The hands-on lessons focus on building critical thinking skills and exploring the connections between the natural and human-made world.

Cody Outdoor Education provides opportunities for students throughout New England, to explore environmental and science education through inquiry-based lessons at our campus in Freedom, NH. Camp Cody in Freedom, NH is located on the southeastern edge of the White Mountains – where New England’s natural beauty is seen at its best – inspiring forests, breathtaking mountains, and crystal-clear lakes. We also have a sister site on Cape Cod! Complimenting both programs are modern facilities, which offer program resources including a low ropes course.

Job Responsibilities:

Instructors deliver residential, 1-5-day environmental education programs to 4th - 8th grade students from New England schools. We focus on social and emotional learning, science and engineering skills, and adventure education. Our lessons are standards- aligned and each program is customized to support student learning in the classroom. The hands-on lessons focus on building critical thinking skills and exploring the connections between the natural and human-made world. Instructors also facilitate team building (initiatives and low ropes) to develop students’ leadership and problem-solving skills. Instructors are responsible for educating a group of 10-12 students throughout the program, including facilitating day and night lessons, leading large group activities and hosting meals. All instructors participate regularly in tasks that support our programs including housekeeping, kitchen work, office work, debriefs, and training. Instructors have opportunities to enhance the curriculum and develop their educator portfolio. Desired Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent life experience (preferred but not required)

  • Passion for working outdoors and with youth

  • Teaching experience/ experience working with youth

  • Ability to relate to students and peers in a positive, supportive manner

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

  • Willingness to take on tasks outside teaching to support the program

Benefits:

  • Starting pay is 90 dollars per day
